We're going to America... Part 1: Communing with Nature in Long Island

Late August, we were US-bound with a jam-packed trip ahead of us: From NJ to NY to Boston, and everywhere in between, there wasn't a dull moment this summer's trip, celebrating Uncle Kivi's wedding to Aunt Randi, catching up with friends and family and generally having a blast.
Things kicked off in Long Island, NY as Tzofi helped Grandma and Grandpa with their vegetable garden - watering flowers and everything nearby and picking lots of Grandpa's delicious tomatoes and cucumbers (or cubunders as Tzofi calls them) for snacking.

It was a bittersweet party - on the one hand, saying goodbye to Tsila and Miriam after two incredible years of their loving support and creativity, was incredibly hard and sad; on the other hand, who can resist a great pool party!
Tsila and Miriam planned a half-day of brunch, games and swimming for all ages. The kids participated in a summertime meets 'going to the sea' activity where they simulated swimming, digging at the beach, rowing boats and riding the waves. Parents were invited to watch, participate, eat or swim.
Everyone had a great time. Presents were dolled out for teachers and kids alike. After the fun and food, the timid and brave left the kiddy pool for the big pool. And with promises to keep in touch, everyone wished each other 'goodbye for now'. See you after the summer break!

Tzofi and I braved the traffic and crowds to (ad)venture up north with our favorite Kenny and Amir for a full-day Chol HaMoed Pesach adventure through old Yaffo to the Zoo near Haifa and back. Tzofi took charge of photographing the day for everyone - including her blog - so, except for the first few pictures, enjoy her masterful handling and composition. This is how she sees the world after all. Given her love for the camera, expect more images from 'The World According to Tzofi'.

Little did she know it, but Tzofi's been preparing for Passover since, well, since Purim really. In school, they've been learning about cleaning - Spring cleaning here is known as Passover cleaning, for obvious reasons and also since Passover is known as the holiday of Spring. And shortly after they all scrubbed the place clean, they started in on the songs and story of Passover. From seder songs to general holiday songs to springtime celebrations, Tzofi's so excited and it's been great fun for all.

Still Celebrating Purim (and Chanukah)

On Purim itself, Tzofi and I partied like there was no tomorrow. Below, are scenes from our dress up and accessories party - Tzofi insisted on putting all her barettes in her hair. And soon enough, the photoshoot turned into a musical performance extravaganza with Tzofi showing off all she learns in school - and loves to sing all the time. Enjoy (and hold on to your seatbelts, cause it aint just cute, we think it's quite amazing too).

For days at school, Tzofi was playing dressup - everything from animals to clowns to Geishas (or something Asian, it was weird). Then the big day arrived. Friday before Purim itself.

It was 80 degrees (no joke). And all the poor tots were so excited to wear their costumes. Warnings of overheating went unheeded (but still heated). That morning, Tzofi's eyes lit up upon viewing her 'busy bee' costume for this year. Have to admit, it came out pretty damn great.

Luckily, Tzofi's birthday came out a day before election day here in Israel so to celebrate during the day off, we invited some of Tzofi's nearest and dearest for a brunch/ bagel and rainbow cake party. Tzofi and the rainbow cake were both big hits - for obvious reasons - each in their own right.

Zoo time, at the Ramat Gan Safari and Zoo, is special time for Harry and Tzofi. If you ask her, Tzofi zoo highlights include elephants, 'tushy' monkeys, snakes, giraffes, hippos, peacocks, and soft pretzels ("beigeleh"). On a recent early trip, Tzofi was the first, and only, kid to enter the petting zoo where she was welcomed by all the petting zoo animals who seemed to have yet to retreat from the pesky paws of the day's little visitors.

Tzofi seemed to provide an assuring calm to the animals, sharing her joy and love with them, including what seems to be a real moment with the sheep - an eye to eye transference of understanding. Enjoy below what we've come to call 'holy triumvirate' of Tzofi's zoo experience.

Well, Savta's week-long funtastic visit included tons of presents for Tzofi's 2nd birthday and tons of good playtime around the town. Upon receiving this lovely guitar from her parents for her very own - as opposed to Harry's small mandolin which is also consdiered "Foofi's"- Tzofi was quick to begin serenading Savta with one of her favorite hits, "You are my sunshine".

The week of February 9th was full of surprises, fun and above all - presents. This girl must have thought it was raining presents. Every day there was a new 'pecial gift awaiting her - from Savta, Gramma and Granpa, Evan (Yay yay) and Terri and the gang, Uncle Kivi and Randi, Kenny and Amir, us and more. Her friends, our friends, family from all over - it was all really nice and touching and we want to thank you all.

Surely Tzofi's big highlight of the week - aside from Savta's superfun visit - was her big birthday party at school. As you can see below, Tsila fills the special Friday with a serious ceremony. There's a bell, throne, crown, gift, hugs from everyone, special meal, cake, pictures (of Tzofi over the years), decorations, songs, dancing and lots of playing in Tzofi's honor. And at some point, Tzofi gets to sit in the center of a parachute while they all dance and sing around her.

It was her day and she shined like a star. Check out the pictures below. And thank you Tsila for all your hard work, creativity and love too. Can't wait to see what next year will bring :)

Chanukah Party Time - the fun, like the oil, never ends

So although it's February, we're still in Chanukah mode which is appropriate to where we live, Modiin, home of the Maccabees and all. Tzofi's still singing all her favorite Chanukah songs - including Maoz Tzur in its entirety (and accurately too I must add). And you can't blame the girl for keeping the party going since her Chanukah party at school this year was a great big blowout jamboree.

The kids were all asked to come in white - little did they know they'd be all lit up with blacklight - neato - along with all the neon dreidls that hung from the ceiling. Liat the rhythm-music teacher led a special session for parents and kids with songs and dancing. A dreidl-pinata was busted opened by the kids to reveal special toys and treats for each (from Tsila). And all the fried-food-fun ended in a big shredded paper fight which was somehow linked to the sufganiyot, or doughnuts, that Tzofi ate and later threw up.

Right before Chanukah, we drove up north, far north to be exact, to spend a Shabbat weekend with 'Ha Goldmanim' on Moshav Yonatan. We had such a great time. Shmuel and Leah and their four children - little Atarah, engaging Oryanne, funnyman Yonatan, and wise, oldest sister Shayelle - were incredible hosts. And Tzofi had such a blast, playing with all the kids, singing with Shmuel, drinking tons of Kiddush juice, eating up all Leah's delicious food (including those rice crispy/oatmeal cookies, mmm) and generally enjoying moshav life. Thanks for the sweet retreat treat, guys!

Shabbat Shalom

When Tzofi has school on Fridays, the half-day activities include Shabbat-related songs and preparations. Kabbalat Shabbat is celebrated through song - Hinei Ma Tov U'Mana'im for example - and dance - everyone holds hands and sways along - and brachot - lighting the candles and saying Kiddush. It's very cute. We discovered this one day when Tzofi, at home, declared the day "Yom Shishi, Erev Shabbat" (Friday, Shabbat eve), started singing a resounding version of Hinei Ma Tov, looked high and low for the Shabbat candles and demanded some "Kikush" juice. It was quite amazing.

The next Friday, Tzofi wanted to dress up for Shabbat and, in return, was honored at school with the nomination of "Ima Shabbat" or Shabbat mother. Her best friend, Gil, played the part of Abba Shabbat, or Shabbat father. When we showed up to pick her up, the two were hand in hand with their respective head coverings. Oh yeah, it was extremely adorable. Harry and I were convinced they would break out in a toddler rendition of "Sunrise Sunset" but maybe by the end of the year...

Bringing Down the House (or Park)

Back in November, on a beautiful afternoon, we went for a birthday picnic party in Tel Aviv's HaYarkon park. Tzofi kicked things up a notch with a few new tricks up her sleeve:

Comedy shtick straight from the Catskills, "So I was in gan yesterday and the teacher starts singing!? Am I right or whaaaa?!"

And a new rap, straight from the 'diin, "Wellllll myyyyy name is Tzofi and I'm here say, I like to eat French Toast every day.... Yeahhhhhhh boyeeeeeeeeee."

Happy birthday Harry! Celebrations were in full swing earlier in November as Tzofi and I ordered a special ice cream cake for Dada - filled with layers of ice cream that I even got them to separate with Oreo cookie crumble (not usually done here). Tzofi wasn't really interested in the presents (a juicer!) or singing, because when faced with ice cream she becomes slightly (read: majorly) obsessed.

Savta's Got Balls or Sukkot with Savta

Back in October, Tzofi woke up to a real big treat. After days of telling Tzofi that Savta's coming, she was finally here! And as everyone (Harry) built the Sukkah, Savta let the good times start rolling with tea parties with Tzofi and a game of throw all the balls you can find.

It was a nonstop vacation of Savta-love as we played in and around the house. Games were made up, skills were learned, songs were sang, and we had a great time - though no one enjoyed Savta's visit more than little Tzofi, who woke up the morning after Savta left looking for her and still wants to sing 'You are my sunshine' - referred to as 'suh-shine' - and dance out all the moves Savta taught her. Come back soon Savta we miss you!

Now Tzofi, go get Savta all the balls. I'll throw them and you can run after them with glee, pick them up and return them to me on the chair one at a time.Sure is fun. I can stand on them too.

First Haircut Hooray

So before we backtrack to October's highlights, and there were plenty, let's jump ahead to November when Tzofi celebrated her first haircut! The experience went off without tears or surprises, thanks to the lollipop and bouncy car seats, and we all went to celebrate with a family picnic at our favorite local 'bridge' park - named for its rope bridge that she loves to race across - and mastered rather quickly thanks to Savta's help just last month!

And onto the Jersey shore, where good ol' Bradley Beach served as the stomping grounds for all of Savta's grandkids (and big kids). Day in and day out we enjoyed beautiful beach (and pool) weather. And in between sand castles and running in waves, all the cousins played, drew, sang, danced, loved and laughed - and us parents got some nice QT on the porch after hours. It was truly a madhouse of fun in the sun with family.

Trip to the States, Part 1: Out on the Island

So our August trip to the States was jampacked with excitement: New family, old friends, good times, lots of ice cream - and that was just the beginning out in Long Island.

The trip kicked off with a valiant effort to stave off Tzofi's jetlag. But the ocean-side park at West Meadow Beach failed to rally her attention. Sprinklers, swings, slides - no reaction. Ice cream? Zzzzz. She was really sleeping in this swing. Really.

A late afternoon stop with Dada to the Duck Pond though got her up and moving. Good times at Dada's favorite local haunts.

Day 2's excitement was a big welcome to Baby Joshua! Big hugs for Auntie Emily and Uncle John. And more grandparent-fun for Grandma and Grandpa. Hooray more toys for everyone!

Finally, our weekend adventure to the Riverhead Aquarium was a big hit - mayim (water), dagim (fish), penguins and more. Tzofi pointed,shouted with glee and dove right in. A first experience for her and fun for the rest of us.

Tzofi's End-of-Year Party Blowout: The Best Party I've Been to in Years

Although Tzofi has just about another month left of school, the end-of-year extravaganza took place last week - and let me tell you, this was the best party I've been to in years. The whole room was transformed into an under the sea theme. Blue and white balloons and inner tubes decorated the ceiling. Walls were covered in murals with all sorts of fish and sea life. And in the center of it all: the pupper master, Efrat.

Leading an encore performance of 'The Little Fish' Efrat pulled out all the stops with an extravagant, interactive performance that had all the kids dancing, singing, pretending to swim, eat ice cream, put on hats and sunscreen, and even bury themselves in sand. There were songs, there was sun and there was imagination and great fun. And puppets. Lots of sea animal puppets singing to music the kids knew and loved.

Can't even tell you what a great time Tzofi had. Dancing in the sea. Rowing along with her friends. Digging in the sand. Eating her ice cream. Below are some pics of the fun. After the performance everyone ate breakfast together. Tzila read a poem about all the kids, how much they've grown and how much she'll miss those who aren't returning next year. Us parents were prepared with our own thank you wishes and presents. And the final hours were spent reminiscing about the year, playing with their new presents from Tzila (inner tubes and puzzles with their pictures), and going nuts with joy.

Back in May, we geared up with friends to party at the Tel Aviv Baby Loves Disco party. It was Tzofi's first - and hopefully last - time at Haoman 17. But she sure did sparkle on the dancefloor with some new moves from Harry.

Hello, Halo and Shalom

So Tzofi's been sprouting up words for the past few months I guess. And what's amazing is that she's racking up both English and Hebrew words. It started with Abba/ Dada and Ima/ Mama - which is now mostly Dada and Mama. But she still seems to have a growing range in both languages. Yesterday she said 'tapuach' when offered an apple. Though she knows the word apple - also as it relates to all other fruits that she doesn't call 'nana' - she seemed really excited to enunciate ta-poo-waaa. We also thought that was pretty amazing.

Then tonight she said, na'alayim (shoes). Now she's been loving her shoes (the english versions) for the past week, eagerly getting hers to put on, treading in mine, bringing Harry his and even putting some on Noonie. But tonight, seeing our shocked responses, she continued to point out all the na'alayim in her books, around the house, etc. Plus she had major fun pronouncing the words, experimenting with the 'y' and 'l' and 'yim' sounds.

So to record the larger achievements in both languages, she's also got the following words down pat: hello + halo + shalom; ball + kadoor; bye bye; baloon; ma zeh (what's this) and mee zeh (who's this); book; doggy; duckie; soos (horse); shoes + na'alayim; peh (mouth); 'znayim (ears); baby; sing; mayim (water); bottle + bakbook; degel (flag); nadned (see saw or swing); noonie (our dog); cookie; lo + no; two; apple + tapuach; banana; todah (thank you); and opah (or oopsy, said when someone or something). She also started recently saying 'hi mama' 'hi dada' and 'bye bye tzila' (her teacher at school and it comes out more like tzee'a).

Oh and when she throws something down, she puts her hands on her cheeks (McCauly Caulkin style) and says 'oy yoy yoy'. So damn cute.

Family Fun with the Animals at the Zoo: A Story

One beautiful Friday afternoon in April, the Rubenstein-Haller-Locker family headed out to the Ramat Gan Safari Zoo for an afternoon of good ol' animal gawking and mimicry.

Savta and Tzofi decided to show some extra love for the baby goats in the petting zoo. Baa's were heard a'plenty as Tzofi led Savta to grant hugs to all the baby goats she could tackle, er, maul, er, pet.

Well, the whole family was just plumb tuckered out from all the excitement and decided to take a few minutes on a bench to regroup. But Tzofi kept pointing and yelling, monosyllabically,the equivalent of, "Safta, Look! Look who's here!"

And the three of them looked up to where Tzofi was pointing and she exclaimed, "Uncle Kivi!"

"Oh, Tzofi," chuckled the wise Dada. "That's not Uncle Kivi. But you're right, Uncle Kivi does have prehensile feet which he uses to climb and swing from tress."

"Oh," confirmed an enlightened Tzofi, "I better remember to ask Uncle Kivi about that next time I see him."

April has been very exciting around here as Tzofi continues to build up her walking skills with great enthusiasm and a fashionable flare for the dramatic.

She's also got quite a vocabulary with a real knack for conversation, especially when it involves her much-beloved Dada. If you listen closely you may detect some Hebrew in them thar babbles. Cool.

Every so often in the middle of winter we have absolutely beautiful weather. We took full advantage this past weekend and headed over to the newly renovated Port of Tel Aviv for the usual Rubenstein debauchery and chaos.

The day started out innocently enough. Tzofi was her usual happy self.

While posing for this photo she came up with the brilliant idea of challenging me to a French fry eating contest.

Tzofia started off confident - even attempting to intimidate me by mocking me with her French fry.

Her lack of experience (and probably the fact that her stomach is as big as my fist) proved to be her downfall and she quickly realized she was in way over her head. We were lucky enough that a photographer was on hand to capture this potential Pulitzer winning photo.

Look who's 1 year old! (not me) What an amazing year it's been - what an amazing Bobo! And to celebrate, we kicked things into high gear with good friends, lots o' presents and big old birthday songs. Harry pulled out all the stops and made a delicious buttercream layered vanilla cake. The top looked straight out of Tzofi's favorite book - the Book of Feelings - and heralded her favorite activities these days - dancing and music! (Inside was a chocolate buttercream frosting layer, mmm.)

The cake was as delicious for everyone as it was for Tzofi who devoured her big chunk of cake and frosting and kept licking up anything leftover on her fingers.

Sunday evening, Tzofi was invited to her first birthday party - Hooray for Matan Strom-Sachs who turns 2 this week! Tzofi enjoyed watching and playing with the older kids. She even joined them at the kids table to eat Mara's delicious baked ziti - which can be seen all over Tzofi's cute face! Smiles abounded as Tzofi showed off her newest party trick: waving!

Onto 7 Months

Tzofi's 7th month kicked off with a bang as she started attending playgroup! Called a mishpachton in Hebrew, Tzofi joins 4 other kids - from 9 months to 14 months - for a day of fun with Tzila, the Ganenet or teacher, and her assistant Lilach. Tzofi seems to have adjusted amazingly well - barely cries now when I drop her off - and is receiving glowing reports of sleeping well, playing nicely, singing, talking and eating up a storm.

The group spent the days before Rosh Hashana singing songs for the holiday, tasting pomegranate juice and even listening to a shofar. Parents were invited to decorate the room with cards wishing our little ones the best and happiest new year. The whole thing was super cute. It's a consensus among teachers and parents that Tzofi certainly wins the award for best dressed (thank you all for the gifts and hand-me-downs) and gets everyone talking especially at mealtime. Tzofi also seems to be the only one who gets sarcasm and can tell the twins, Alon and Itai, apart. How she does it? Nobody knows.

Well the purple room was in full swing as base camp for Uncle Kivi and Randi Jo's first-time Israel travels. Harry pulled out all the stops on an amazing gourmet meal to welcome our July guests who were happy to relax in Modiin - especially after their local two hour hike which somehow included rock climbing for Randi. From the salty beaches of Tel Aviv to the kindergartens of Dimona, Uncle Kivi seems to have inherited Savta's (amazing) sense of direction as he and Randi drove North, South and everywhere in between. Below are pics from our first forays into Jerusalem. The entire gang headed to the Old City on a hot Friday morning where upon seeing the Western Wall for the first time both Randi and Tzofia declared themselves the Messiah. good times.

Back in Israel: New Tricks

With two teeth proudly jutting out from below, eating has become one of Tzofi's favorite activities. She seems to truly enjoy playing with her spoon, trying to feed herself, and tasting all the new textures of fruits and veggies. Eating has never been more fun for me, I have to admit. Hits include, sweet potato, squash, applesauce, peas and banana.

Our first trip to the States: Part 3, NYC

As Tzofi neared the final leg of her US tour, she decided to become one with her surroundings and just like NYC, Tzofi was the baby who never slept. Morning walks with Savta through city streets and parks provided more non-stop stimulation and excitement as did the streetside view from Savta's apartment. (Interestingly enough, Savta's new plasma TV was nowhere near as attractive to Tzofi as the window-view, though I'm sure that will change with time.)

Tzofi's days were packed as family and friends called to pencil in brunches and lunches across the Upper West Side. Walks down Broadway or playtime at Elie's apartment were just some other ways we spent our days. And nights, well, they were spent (up) at Savta's.

We broke from the city for a quick return to Long Island, to celebrate Shea's baby naming with proud parents Raina and Tod and meet more extended family over a good, old fashioned, shul bagel brunch.

Overall, few pics were taken toward the end of our trip, but the memories of fast-paced city fun and family times will last us until next visit.

Our first trip to the States: Part 2, Jersey Shore

For Part 2 of Tzofi's US tour, we headed to Bradley Beach, NJ where the Boston Hallers eagerly awaited us. Abel and Tzofi took to each other immediately, while Ula and Olive were happy to finally meet "Baby Tzofia" and bring her toys. Good times were had by all as we surfed in the pool, sang songs and jumped on Uncle Kivi. Generally, waking up Uncle Kivi was a fun activity for all that weekend. Sunday's Big Reunion BBQ was a big hit as cousins from near and far reunited and met the new babies in town for the first time.

Our favorite Greenbergs then came up for a few days of cheesy beachside fun for kids big and small. As the oldest, Tamar led the way, winning prizes for everyone at the Frog Bog and Fishing booths. The train at Point Pleasant was Tzofi's first carnival ride with Harry (Nighthawk), Cindy, Tamar and Ilan. The next day, she rode the historic carousel at Seaside Heights - dates back to 1910 - with me (Mommy), Cindy, Ilan and Tamar. Super Jersey Shore fun was the highlight of our trip!

Our first trip to the States: Part 1, Port Jeff

Well, part 1 of Tzofi's recent US tour was kicked off (in high gear) as Grandma and Grandpa welcomed Tzofi with lots of love - and tons of baby gear! Tzofi enjoyed endless days of cuddling, playtime and walks around town so that Grandma can shep some nachas and show off her beautiful grandaughter.

Tzofi's smile got even wider when Auntie Emily and Uncle John came to visit with (awesome) Archie in tow. Archie's moseying around the house brought a curious gaze and big smile from Tzofia.

Backtrack: Savta's May Visit

Though it was a quick week-long trip, Savta managed to introduce Tzofi to a ton of new things including the Mediterranean and Tel Aviv beach scene, Azrieli mall and ladies-only brunches. First things first

So we're way behind in posting some udpates on Tzofi. And aside from recounting all the great moments of Tzofi's debutante trip to the States, we must start with the big news: the firsts.

Since coming back, Tzofi's had her:
- first cold and cough. poor thing.
- her first food! a pureed (organic) tomato which according to Dr. Funny (he fancies himself quite the standupist (that's Hebrew for stand up comedian, not kidding) would be great vitamin C and a good healthy Mediterranean fruit to start with. he then made me swear not to tell the nurses at the well baby clinic that I started foods without their permission. oy.) it went over well. and tzofi loves playing with her spoon and the food so the videos will begin with some rice cereal soon.
- and her first tooth! well if a little prickly sharp nub coming out of her gums counts. it's certainly the tip of the iceberg, if you ask me. hopefully when the whole bit starts to grow in, her smile will sparkle in the blazing summer sun. and of course,the pics will follow.

Now that those milestones have been mentioned, we have to go back in time. The Legend of Sidekick Stinky McRubes

Hard to believe, but within two weeks of the great photo shoot below of Rubin and Tzofi, Rubin passed away from kidney failure. It was all so sudden and quick. And we're sorely missing his presence in the house. Rubin was all heart, litle brain, tons of spirit and lots of hair. Back in March, I started writing a post about Noonie and Rubin and Tzofi. It seems fitting to recap.

Many of you have been asking how the dogs are reacting to Tzofi. So I thought I would dedicate some time and prose to Rubin and the Noonster. First Rubin, he is afterall the easy one. Rubin's happy doing one of five things: loving (ie. cuddling); going on a walk; playing; getting treats or sleeping. And he barks when people come in the house or to the door. Even near the door seems to get his bark on. Rubin's territorial but loyal. So loyal that his self-appointed role as 'protector' of us Rubenstein women - Noonie included - has naturally extended itself to include Tzofi. Rubin's been amazing with Tzofi so far. He seems to really love her too. He follows her everywhere. He kisses her. Watches her. Barks when she's upset (true story). And generally seems to like hanging out with her - whether on the play mat, the bathroom or under her crib.

Oh stinky McRubes, we didn't want to say goodbye. We miss you so much already. We hope you had a wonderful life. And we promise to regale Tzofi with stories of her legendary, loyal sidekick. This one's for you, little dude!

March Milestones

Well it was an exciting month for all, as Grandma and Grandpa came to visit, armed with mountains of beautiful presents for Tzofia - thank you! - and eager to spend whole days just admiring their granddaughter. Highlights from the past 10 days (in order of probable interest) include:

- Tzofi starting to smile (pictures to soon follow)

- Tzofi also outgrowing her 0-3 frog outfit among other newborn-wear. (Luckily Grandma bought another frog outfit in 3-6 month size without our even asking - (again, pictures to soon follow))

- Grandma and Grandpa having a super time exploring the wineries in the areas around Beit Shemesh and the Jerusalem hills - and without getting lost!

- Harry and I enjoying a delicious upscale dinner sans baby (and babytalk) (Editors note: There was indeed babytalk. Ziva is lying - Harry. Why is Harry editing me? - Ziva)

- and me downing a frozen strawberry margarita for the first time in 18 months!

A wonderful time was had by all and we're sure Tzofi will miss all the special singing, dancing, cooing and hugging her grandparents bestowed with love and joy.

The Wrath of the Bath

According to the child rearing bible, "What to Expect the First Year" also known as "How to scare the shit out of a parent in 30 pages or less," the bath time should be "calm," "soothing," "quiet" and "comforting." Although she appeared to enjoy her first baths, tonights bath was beyond disastrous. I would even venture to call it a debacle.

I'll recap as best as I can.

Harry: I'm filling the baby tub!

Ziva: Let me know when it's ready so I can get her undressed!

Tzofia: WAAAAAAAAAA!

Harry: Shit! Flood! Where is the bath plug?

Ziva: I don't know, the water is leaking into the cabinets!!!!

Harry: Oh, here it is. Damn, we are running out of hot water! Hurry!

Ziva: I have to get her undressed! Where is her towel?

Harry: It got soaked in the flood!

Ziva: Oh No! Here we come!

During previous baths we have used a medicated soap that does not need to be washed off. Unbeknown to Ziva, Harry used a new soap that does indeed need to be washed off.

Tzofia: WAAAAAAAAAA......hehehehehehehe (as the warm water washes over her)

Ziva: Let's just get this done quick.

Harry: Ok, we just have to rinse her off.

Ziva: What do you mean? The soap can just stay on!

Harry: Shit. I didn't tell you I used the other soap?

She's becoming more aware of everything around her and just yesterday I noticed her poo had more of a brown hue to it than a yellow one. Is that a gentleman caller at the door?

It's amazing. Not five seconds in his arms, resting on his chest and hearing him coo 'In My Room' by the Beach Boys (that song does it like no other), and little Tzofia melts into the comfort zone. While I can always rely on the 'fountain's to calm her down, Harry's got some super knack for it. He sings her great songs - REM, the Cure, and the Ramones - and rocks her (literally) like no other. Me? I head for the cheesier for some reason: showtunes (Little Shop of Horrors) and 80s (Air Supply and Chicago). We laughed that if a giant cradled you in his arms, you'd feel safe and warm, too. But I think it's beyond that. To Tzofi, her Daddy is one big Teddy Bear replete with an awesome soundtrack and Howard Stern-esque humor (adapted however inappropriately for a baby, of course). And her Mommy is a singing, flamboyant cow udder - cheese and chopped liver included. I'll take it for now because it works. And because Fiddler on the Roof is on TV this afternoon. So Harry, enjoy your first day back at work, we'll be ok at home. After all, who needs the Beatles when we've got Topol!

In the Name of the Baby

It's interesting how nicknames evolve. At first, Ziva was slighly confused and would accidently refer to the baby as Nooshnoosh, which is one of the dozen nicknames we have for our dog Noonie. Others include Noonster, Nooniepoons, Poopoos, Noonoo, and my personal favorite, Noonie Poopins. I believe the source of this confusion has something to do with the "post-partum hormones are all over the place" syndrome. Now that two weeks have passed since Tzofia's birth, Ziva has finally settled on an original nickname for the little tyke. These days Ziva is calling her Bobo. I'm not quite sure where Bobo came from, but at least Noonie can feel special once again.

Now what about me? I've had a nickname for her ever since she was in the womb. It's a fun name that evokes both prestige and degredation. I deemed her Princess Poopie Pants. It's quite fitting, trust me.

We thought it would be a nice idea to take full advantage of the beautiful weather yesterday and take a short trip to one of the local parks. While this photo looks quite quaint, Tzofia was pretty much hysterical the entire time. She's just like her dad in that she doesn't like leaving the house. We'll have to work on that.

A visit from Safta

Just over 48 hours after Tzofia was born and Safta landed in Israel to welcome her newest grandchild. Laden with gifts - used and new (special thanks to Auntie Terri and Uncle Evie, Ula, Olive and Abel for the hand-me-downs and to cousin Goldie for the knit blanket) - Safta spent the week entertaining Tzofi, walking Noonie and Rubin, seeing her friends and, most important, helping us with our big adjustment.
